Guerrilla CG Training

I've finally got one of my training videos ready to watch. Keep in mind this one's aimed at people who have never touched a 3d program before. Think your mother!

There are some obvious mistakes, I'm going to redo the audio and try and get rid of the unnecessary pauses, lots of things to fix up. But feedback now would be much appreciated, and and any ideas how to improve/make slicker etc.

I've got many more that are at various stages, they'll get more complex.

Really nicely animated and great use of blopping sound effects. Did you record those in the tiolet?

I'm not sure how much of it my mum would get. I thought the whole co-ordinate in space thing could be a bit clearer. Rather then y 2, "y has a value of two which places it here on the y axis" would have made it clearer. Even y = 2 would have been a little clearer. I was waiting for y 1 to turn up.

The early reference to shading may also be a bit of a leap down the line. My Mum wouldn't even understand that lights interact in a virtual three-d world, let alone the idea of shading. This concept needs to be explained either here or in a future tutorial about shading. Perhaps a light Icon should spin around the static triangle while your talking about the concept of shading.

I guess by the end of the clip it all starts to make sense though. I gues my mum could piece it back together retrospectively.

It must be quite an interesting exercise trying to be as clear and concise as possible. It must be a great exercise in disciplined writing, at least as laterally challenging as dramatic writing.

Anyway, I might read about transformers now.

cheers Pete. It is tough writing, the visuals are my forte, not the words. I think I'll include the "y has a value of" that's a good idea. It's also a good idea to explain the lights. I was going to have another vid that explains the wireframe shade, xray, shading etc. It'll be a good to include the light example in that vid, it'll explain it further for those that didn't understand it in this one.

When does your mum's film come out Pete?

Soon, soon. Its called "I gave birth to the best kid in the whole world - one mother's unbiased tale"

Watch out for it. No cg though. She's still waiting for Silke's tutorials to come out on vhs and for me to come home and connect the player up.
